HIRE-PURCHASE ACT 1967 (ACT 212) [WITH NOTES ON CASES]

The Hire-Purchase Act 1967, published as Laws of Malaysia Act 212, makes provisions, among other things, to regulate and control the forms and contents of the hire-purchase agreements, the rights and duties of the parties to such agreements and also to define and describe the liabilities of persons including guarantors and third parties involved or affected by any transactions.

Commercial transactions in Malaysia have been given an impetus with the amendments to the Hire-Purchase Act 1967, particularly by widening the definition of ‘ consumer goods’ to cover a large variety of goods and vehicles.
