“The Malaysian Employment & Industrial Relations Law comes at a very important time, where Malaysian employment relationships have undergone significant changes over the years, influenced by economic transformation, globalization, technological development, changing workplace expectations and evolving standards of fairness. At the same time, the fundamental principles of industrial relations remain firmly rooted in the Malaysian legal framework, including the Industrial Relations Act 1967, the Employment Act 1955, the Trade Unions Act 1959 and the body of jurisprudence developed by the Malaysian Industrial Court and the superior courts.

It is in this respect that this book can serve a valuable purpose. By bringing together legal principles and their practical application, it provides a useful reference for those who engage with employment and industrial relations in Malaysia. It should be of immense assistance to practitioners, members of the industrial relations community.”

— Y.A. Tuan Paramalingam Doraisamy
Chairman, Industrial Court of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur

Malaysian Employment & Industrial Relation Law is a comprehensive practitioner’s handbook covering the full employment relationship — from contracts and statutory minimum terms to termination, misconduct, poor performance, constructive dismissal and retrenchment, as well as dispute resolution and remedies. It covers Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak and states the law as at 1 September 2026, incorporating key recent legislative amendments.

Grounded in the governing statutes and leading Industrial Court and superior court decisions, the book explains both the legal principles and the evidence and procedures required to establish them. It provides practical guidance on the Industrial Court, Labour Court and civil courts, appeals and judicial review, supported by specimen cause papers in English and Bahasa Malaysia, checklists, worked computations, case digests, templates and practical examples.
