Description
FORWARD:
The complexities and uncertainties during the run up to the 14th General Election and the days after, are indeed subjects that need to be recorded, dissected and shared with fellow Malaysians. The story of Malaysia, a New Malaysia, is unfolding. We are at the beginning of a new. exciting chapter. Either by chance or design, the elections on 9 May 2018 resulted in a transition for the nation.
This has given rise to questions and debates about the basis of the nation – its Constitution – and constitutional questions are definitely complex and will need unravelling. While social media has given extensive opportunities for debates and exchanges of opinions, the complexity of constitutional matters are subject to misinterpretations, either by sheer ignorance or more often, are intentional and self-serving.
Hence, GK Ganesan Kasinathan’s book, Nation in Paradox: Moments in Constitutional Law in Malaysia At GE 14′, is to be appreciated; in his unique writing style, he has managed to turn a dull subject into an enjoyable read. More importantly, his ability to explain and argue these issues in easy-to-understand language provides a person who is not legally trained, further insights into the workings of the Constitution, apart from the context of how it was promulgated. This makes the book enjoyable reading and his ability to keep the pace short and sweet adds to its appeal.
GK Ganesan Kasinathan is a senior member of the Bar and this book. ‘Nation in Paradox: Moments in Constitutional Law in Malaysia At GE 14’ illustrates his knowledge of the Federal Constitution. The book is equally significant as it captures watershed moments of our nation’s history.
I wish the author all success.
Thank you.

Descriptions:
History reveals movements that have succeeded gloriously or have failed miserably. A tyrannical Government would be unfazed by any kind of disobedience. That is one aspect. Much also depends on the location of the movement: what works in New York, London or Amsterdam may not work in the Middle East or even Kuala Lumpur.
A lot depends on the attitude of the people.
